What, it's just ASCII/ANSI art... I've seen far, far better with just the extended ASCII charset and ANSI color back in the halcyon days of the BBS, circa 1990...

Warning: This does not VALIDATE as XHTML 1.0 Strict!
Challenge him to create the same, but with CSS-styling instead - and making it work cross-browsers!

Yes, you can use table cells like pixels if you want, by setting the background colours appropriately. This isn't clever, difficult or in any way useful; it takes up something like 20 times as much bandwidth and isn't even a technical challenge. I'm sure putting together the video took some effort but I have no idea why the creator bothered.
You guys obviously didn't recognize the find and replace box as he changed the wrongly spelt height. Maybe it's the fact it isn't in english... although what do I know.

It's easy to make a program to generate the code from a picture in Java. I have a friend who wrote one in about 5 minutes.
The interesting part about the whole mess is it bloats the size of the file required to display the image. Your ~200kb banner becomes ~3mb.
We are brainstorming ways to shrink the file size (character count), but the current thinking is this:
Perhaps an image file format is better than a web markup language when it comes to storing image data =)

If you look carefully it goes tr > td > tr > td (means it should have been drawing line by line), but the graphic sequence is random, everyone with basic HTML knowledge can tell.

the Heifth is being replaced with Height using the find and replace tool. It went quiet fast so i haven't seen everything. This movie could have been made by making printscreens and past it in a movie, so that would explain the typing speed which makes it look like a script. I am not gonna spend much time to see if it is real or not. And it is NOT ASCII/ANSI art.

To all of the people calling fake on this video with bogus reasons:
1) The improperly spelled height attribute is SEARCH AND REPLACED once he copied and pasted the base amount of table rows. You can tell this was done manually as it is done in chunks. This is not at all hard to do.
2) The sequence of table data makes sense because he uses rowspan and colspan to essentially "compress" his results. He knows a big area of the image is going to be the same colour, so instead of 1x1 table cells he uses other sizes.
3) ANSI OR ASCII art refers to art created using text characters displayed AS TEXT on the screen. What is being displayed on the screen here are TABLE CELLS.
I've actually used this process before to embed a CAPTCHA image. It is very handy for making a single page CAPTCHA, but for an 80x120px image you're looking at about 300k of html text, and that's just for the image. It's a neat trick, but not something you want to do very often.
You guys are all ass holes, this guy goes through the trouble of creating this to entertain you fucks and all you can do is critize him, go fuck yourself. Go ahead and talk shit on my spelling.

That's a lot of work to do something that could be done more simply. Never heard of SVG I suppose! (scalable vector graphics). Still, we have to explore every avenue to be sure of finding the best way.

It's a work of art done in a unique fashion. Not fake. LOL @ "fake because he didn't use tab". He doesn't need id's and names because he is coding in a linear style and used solid colors for specific parts of the image. Changing the colors using find and replace works perfectly.
Just have him post the HTML code...
