Prince Hisashito, who is likely to become emperor in the future, celebrated his first birthday today:
The Prince, the only grandson of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, was 75 centimeters tall and weighed 9.285 kilograms as of Monday, the Imperial Household Agency said. He already has several teeth.
Prince Hisahito can crawl and likes to climb the stairs at home. He is the first male member of the Imperial Family to be born in 41 years.
Prince Hisahito is the third in line to the Imperial Throne following Crown Prince Naruhito and Prince Akishino. Under the Imperial Household Law, only male members of the Imperial Family in the male linage can accede to the Chrysanthemum Throne.
